Ever wonder how your favorite local food products are made?

On Sunday, Sept. 11, you can get an insider’s look at the annual North Fork Foodie Tour. Celebrating its 16th year, this self-guided culinary expedition is an opportunity to tour the farms, vineyards, and other establishments behind some of the North Fork’s finest fare.

The North Fork Foodie Tour was founded by the North Fork Reform Synagogue in 2006 and designed to foster a public understanding and appreciation for the food we eat and drink — and those who grow it.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., attendees will be able to choose from a variety of demonstrations and tours happening at 19 participating locations across the North Fork.

Joining the event this year for the first time are Roanoke Lavender farm, Jamesport Farmstead, Mattituck Mushrooms, and Disset Chocolate. Returning participants include Catapano Dairy Farm, Lavender by the Bay, Greenport Harbor Brewery, Browder’s Birds, Castello di Borghese Winery, Sang Lee Farms, Satur Farms, The Naked Farm, Eastern Front Brewery, Goodale Farms, and more.

Attendees can plot out their gastronomic adventures using the Foodie Tour Map, which has a full list of participants and their locations. Highlighted event speakers include Joe and James Finora of Hampton Oyster Company, Laurie Mc Bride of Wickham Fruit Farm, and Mary-Beth Charno, a P.A. who will be speaking about Lyme Essentials and Tick Bites.

Tickets are $30 for adults and free for children 12 and under. They can be purchased online at www.northforkfoodietour.com, by phone at 631-722-5712, or in person at the following locations: Green Earth Natural Foods in Riverhead, Mattituck Florist in Mattituck, Burton’s Books in Greenport, and TouchGOODS in Southold.
