Since its debut in 2006, the North Fork Foodie Tour has become a beloved annual tradition, a behind-the-scenes look at the products and people that make the North Fork such a special place for food, wine and farming. But in this pandemic year, organizers had a new challenge: How do you go behind the scenes when when no one can be on the scene in the first place?

The solution is a reimagined virtual event, featuring filmed tours and expert demonstrations kicking off September 13. The programming is free, but donations are encouraged and benefit the North Fork Reform Synagogue. A $100 VIP package earns you access to early and exclusive content as well as a wine tasting and local bites at Suhru Wines Tasting House in Cutchogue.

In the filmed tours, you’ll learn about growing oysters with Peter Stein of Peeko Oysters, meet top chefs Taylor Knapp of Peconic Escargot and Paw Paw as well as Stephan Bogardus of The Halyard. Abra Morawiec of Feisty Acres Farm talks about farming goat and game and Ira Haspell of KK’s The Farm explains his biodynamic farming techniques.

Throughout the day on September 13, there will also be a series of live webinars on topics including challah baking, wine tasting, quick pickling North Fork produce, tending a backyard vineyard, and community gardening for kids. If you tune in live, you’ll be able to chime in with questions and have them answered by the experts. Can’t make it? All the content will continue to live online after the event.
