North Fork Foodie Tour 2021

Announcing new features on the Foodie Tour website!

The North Fork Foodie Tour site, proudly presented by the North Fork Reform Synagogue, is now available throughout the year and will be regularly updated with new foodie content.  While our previous Foodie Tours have been an in-person, one day event, our experience running the 2020 virtual Foodie Tour and our new, dedicated website allows us to add new offerings when we find partners who share our mission of showcasing sustainable, responsible food production in their local community.  In addition, we will continue to showcase new ideas and information from our long term Foodie Tour partners.

Winter Seed Sowing with Sharna Nicholson

Now that the dark, cold days of winter are here, the following video should brighten your day. Master Gardener Sharna Nicholson will teach you how to start seeds OUTDOORS in January, February & March for easy planting in the springtime. Since many students are still doing remote learning, this presentation offers an excellent science project for adults and children to do together. Here are some Sharna’s TIPS.

Enjoy Mother’s Day with Chocolates Handcrafted on the North Fork!

Ursula XVII (Disset) recently opened Atelier Chocolate in Cutchogue to share her love of chocolate with the North Fork and beyond.  Disset has long been passionate about chocolate and has trained and worked with top pastry chefs in Europe and the U.S., including the North Fork Table and Inn. She is featuring several items specifically designed for Mother’s Day as well as other beautifully crafted offerings such as her “Signature Winter Collection”, a S’Mores Kit and Hazelnut Chocolate Spread. Partner Virtual Tours take you to behind-the-scenes tours at locations that have never been open to the public. Visit an oyster farm in New Suffolk, New York, which supplies some of the top restaurants in New York City. Learn how snails are grown on the North Fork and delivered fresh across the country to restaurants, individual households or North Fork retail shops. Foodie Webinars bring you Foodie Talks and demos on everything foodie from challah bread baking to community gardens, to making wine from grapes grown in your own backyard. Learn how to save a little of the summer by quick pickling produce available right now at North Fork farm stands; how to start seeds outdoors in the winter to give your garden a head start in spring – a great project for parents and kids to do together; how to taste wine like a sommelier; and how a languishing school garden has been turned into a resource that feeds the community’s body and spirit whether or not school is in session.
